This year promises to be a great year for us at Cottonwood School! I will, along with Mrs. Heck, be the homeroom teacher for the 8th grade class.
On the first day of school, we got to know each other a little better by doing an activity that involved us telling about ourselves. It was good for me, because I don’t know many of you guys!
We will have a fun and productive year!!
Love and Life,
Ms. Wilson
There have been some changes in placement of teachers this year, so get ready to see some ‘new’ faces in your classroom! I hope these changes will work out for all involved, and I wish everyone good luck! Only a week until school starts! Yikes!
Summer is almost over, and that means back to school preparations! The Tax holiday for Oklahoma is August 6-8, and for Texas is August 20-22. This means clothes and shoes under $50 will be tax exempt! So mark your calendars, and make your plans accordingly! Summer is in full swing, and we want everyone to come back safe and sound. Please have fun on your vacations, but be careful; stay hydrated and wear sunscreen! I would suggest reading some books too, to get your mind moving and ready for the school year ahead. I can’t wait to see all your happy shiny faces!
Enrollment: August 10th, 9am
Teacher in-service: August 10-11th
First day of school: August 12th
WAY TO GO CHEERLEADERS!
The Cottonwood Cheerleaders attended a UCA summer camp at the Great Wolf Lodge in
Grapevine, TX, July 19-22. There, they learned new cheers, dances, and stunts. They also learned leadership skills and team cooperation. They were part of 650 cheerleaders, ages elementary through high school.
They were awarded ‘spirit sticks’ all four days of the camp, the special ‘spirit banana’ (only awarded to one team per day!), two blue excellent ribbons, FOUR gold superior ribbons, and TWO trophies. The trophies were awarded to the Camp Champs in cheer and dance categories. Our girls won both categories! The camp staff was really impressed by our Cottonwood girls!
Mrs. Heck and I are so proud of the girls; they did an OUTSTANDING job! We also want to send out a big THANK YOU to Mrs. Shannon Humphreys and Mrs. Amy Adams for being advisors, helpers, drivers, substitute moms, etc… We really appreciate it!
The 2010 UCA Summer Camp participants were: Tori Lampkin, Mycah Lynch, Kayle McIninch, Faith Adams, Mallorie Humphreys, Lindsey Mixon, Jayda Reed, Braelynn White, Anna Humphreys, Hannah Ivey, Autum Hensley, Bailee Wilson, and Kayla Watson.
We had a great time in St. Louis for the 8th grade trip. We visited the Gateway Arch, took in a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game, cruised the mall, got our adrinaline pumping at Six Flags, and made a visit to Bass Pro Shop. All-in-all, a VERY good time for students, parents, and teachers alike!! Thanks kids for being so good for us!
I will be making the final arrangements for the trip to St. Louis. If you have any questions, please come see me! We are going to have a blast!!
Trip dates: April 28-May 1.
Way to go Mycah and Courtney! They are the District Champs for National History Day! They wiped out the competition with their project titled, ‘Irish Dance: An Innovation Transporting the Rhythm of a Culture Through Time’. We are STATE BOUND!
I wanted to thank you 8th graders for your hard work on the Valentine Bouquets this year. It was an experience, to say the least. With the money raised, we will purchase your graduation decorations and the rest will help fund your class trip. I will get together some details about the trip and let you know ASAP the final plans. I’m waiting to hear officially the dates we’re allowed to take the trip due to end of the year testing. Keep a good attitude, and we will have a great time!
I know that there have been lots of cancellations regarding basketball games. For the rest of this month, here is the cheer schedule:
2nd-4th Cheerleaders:
Monday 25th @ 9:30am (if your teachers let you attend)
5th-8th Cheerleaders:
Tuesday 26th @ 4:00pm
Once I get an updated February schedule, I’ll let you know. We will be planning another pep rally soon, so please practice your DVDs. We will be doing the ‘Old School Mix’ dance.
Ms. Wilson
Please work hard on selling the picture coupons. We have the potential to raise all the money we need for our trip with this one fundraiser. Take your coupons to church, ballgames, dance recitals, EVERYWHERE! Let’s go, go, go, go, GO!!
ONLY $10! What a bargain!!

I know that I have not made any blog posts on my blog in FOREVER, but I do run Mrs. Jamar’s blog @ www.jjamar.edublogs.org and the First Grade Twitter account @cottonwood1st. I will try to keep my blog for all other information, such as Cheerleading and 8th grade trip info…
Love and life,
Ms. Wilson
